Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry at National Dental SunnysideYour smile is a critical factor in the first impressions that you leave. Any imperfection, from discoloration to damage, even tooth loss, can affect the impressions you leave on those around you. They can even affect your confidence. At National Dental Sunnyside, we can help to restore the beauty of your smile, and your confidence, with cosmetic dentistry.

Teeth Whitening

When you think of beautiful smiles, often an image of bright white teeth has come to mind. However, over time, your enamel can become discolored, dulling your smile. You could go out and buy an over the counter whitening product (such as toothpaste, strips, gels, or pens). These products, however, often don’t achieve the results you are looking for. At National Dental, we offer two types of professional whitening. Chairside whitening is performed in our office and takes about an hour of your time. A bleaching agent is applied to your teeth, and light is used to enhance the effects. Your teeth are noticeably whiter right away. Take home trays give you the freedom to whiten on your own time. We supply you with trays (which are made from molds of your mouth) and the bleaching agent. The trays are meant to be worn between 4 and 8 hours a day for a designated number of days. Typically, your results will be noticeable in about a week.

Dental Bonding

Bonding is a procedure used to fix imperfections in your teeth, including small chips and cracks, gaps, and misshapen or small teeth. The procedure uses a composite resin material, which is very flexible. We can shape and mold the material to restore the appearance and shape of the affected teeth. Bonding is a quick procedure, and completely painless. It is also a non-invasive procedure, requiring no enamel removal to place the material.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are another option available for minor tooth imperfections. They are thin “shells” that cover the front portion of your visible teeth. Porcelain can be made to perfectly blend in with the rest of your teeth. It is also stronger than composite resin. Porcelain veneers require only a minimal amount of the enamel to be removed from the affected teeth, which will ensure a proper fit. They will typically take two visits to complete.

Ceramic Crowns

For damage that compromises the health and strength of the affected tooth, a ceramic crown may be needed. Crowns are “caps” that cover the entire exposed surface of a damaged tooth. While crowns are made from a few different materials, ceramic provides the best cosmetic results. Ceramic perfectly matches both the color and light reflecting properties of enamel. They require the most amount of enamel to be removed from the tooth, ensuring a proper fit, and will typically take two visits.

Dental Implants

Tooth loss can have a major impact on your appearance. Depending upon the number of teeth you have lost, there are a few different options – bridges (1 to 3 missing teeth), partial dentures (several missing teeth in a single area), and complete dentures (all of your teeth are missing). Today, you also have dental implants. Implants are small titanium rods that are inserted into your jaw with a surgical procedure. Despite the fact that they require surgery, dental implants offer several benefits. They are permanent and are nonremovable. Your teeth are supported by the implants, rather than your gums or your adjacent teeth, making them much more comfortable. The biggest advantage of dental implants is that they preserve your jawbone, preventing bone loss.

Periodontal Treatment

Your gums are also a crucial element in your smile. When they become irritated by bacteria, they swell, allowing the bacteria to fall below. The bacteria then attack your jawbone and the periodontal ligaments. As a result, your gums recede, causing your teeth to look longer, your teeth become loose, and they can fall out. Scaling and root planing can help to remove the buildup of plaque and bacteria from your teeth, allowing your gums to heal. Laser dentistry may be used to remove any infected tissue that would otherwise prevent a proper cleaning.
